First-day-screening event of new movie "Outrage Saishusho"

The first-day-screening event of new movie "Outrage Saishusho" was held at Shinjuku Picadilly on 7 October which was attended by the director cum lead actor Kitano Takeshi and cast members Nishida Toshiyuki, Oomori Nao, Pierre Taki, Matsushige Yutaka and Kaneda Tokio. Upon getting onto the stage, Nishida joked that today was the sales promotion event for the novel "Analogue" written by Kitano which made everyone laugh. In line with the movie's theme of who is the last survivor in the underworld battle, the cast were asked about their tactics of surviving as an actor. Nishida then joked to say that as long as they followed the direction of the wind i.e. the trend, they should be able to ensure their survival in this industry.

First-day-screening event of new movie "Narratage"

The first-day-screening event of new movie "Narratage" was held at TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills on 7 October which was attended by the director Yukisada Isao and cast members Matsumoto Jun, Arimura Kasumi, Sakaguchi Kentaro, Onishi Ayaka and Furutachi Yutaro. Matsumoto expressed his gratitude and joy that the movie was finally ready to be seen by everyone and hoped that it would make an impact on everyone's hearts.

First-day-screening event of new movie "Tsuki to Kaminari"

The first-day-screening event of new movie "Tsuki to Kaminari" was held at Theatre Shinjuku on 7 October which was attended by the director Ando Hiroshi and cast members Hatsune Eriko, Koura Kengo and Kusakari Tamiyo. The film which is based on the same-titled novel by Kakuta Mitsuyo, features Hatsune as the lead character Yasuko who had lived with her late father's lover Naoko (Kusakari) and her son Satoshi (Koura) when she was a child. Years later when Yasuko and Satoshi have become adults, they reunite which changes her ordinary and peaceful life drastically.

New supporting cast line-up announcement of 2018 NHK Taiga drama "Segodon"

NHK held a press conference on 3 October to announce a new batch of supporting cast members for its upcoming NHK Taiga drama "Segodon" starring Suzuki Ryohei which will begin its run from 7 January 2018. The drama features the lifetime of Saigo Takamori (Suzuki) who was regarded as a hero in the Meiji Restoration era and experienced two banishments to islands and three marriages during his lifetime. He was credited for his part in overthrowing the Tokugawa Bakufu and realising the Meiji Restoration while his last days were spent fighting the new Meiji government.

The first-day-screening event of new movie "Ernesto" was held at TOHO Cinemas Shinjuku on 7 October which was attended by the director Sakamoto Junji and cast members Odagiri Jo and Nagayama Kento. The movie which was released a day earlier, consists of the Cuba and Hiroshima arcs and features Odagiri as the Bolivian-Japanese doctor Ernesto Freddy Maemura who fought alongside with revolutionist Che Guevara and died at the young age of 25.

The completion screening event of new movie "Kabocha to Mayonnaise" was held at Shinjuku Musashinokan on 10 october which was attended by the director Tominaga Masanori and cast members Usuda Asami, Taiga and Odagiri Jo. The movie will be screened in cinemas from 11 November.

First-day-screening event of new movie "Koi to Uso"

The first-day-screening event of new movie "Koi to Uso" was held at TOHO Cinemas Shinjuku on 14 October which was attended by the director Furusawa Takeshi, cast members Morikawa Aoi, Kitamura Takumi, Sato Kanta, Asakawa Nana, Tanabe Momoko and Sakamoto Shogo who sings the theme song. The movie is based on the same-titled manga by Musao which is currently serialised in manga mobile app "Manga Box" and describes how the heroine Nisawa Aoi lives in a world where there is no freedom to love. In this era where the Japanese government collects and analyses the genetic information of its citizens, it decides the best marriage partner for everyone based on their genetic traits so as to reverse the tide on its shrinking population. However, the heroine is faced with the ultimate dilemma of choosing between two men i.e. her childhood friend Shiba Yuuto (Kitamura) who has been holding a torch for her and Takachiho Sosuke (Sato) who is chosen as her best marriage partner by the government.

Supporting cast line-up of new movie "Sakamichi no Aporon" announced

The supporting cast line-up of new movie "Sakamichi no Aporon" starring Chinen Yuri, Nakagawa Taishi and Komatsu Nana had been announced. The movie which will be shown in cinemas from 10 March 2018, is based on the same-titled manga by Kodama Yuki that won the 57th Shogakukan Manga Award and the No.1 title in the 2009 Kono Manga ga Sugoi's best-loved by females category.

First-day-screening event of new movie "Ringside Story"

The first-day-screening event of new movie "Ringside Story" was held at Shinjuku Musashinokan on 14 october which was attended by the director Take Masaharu and cast members Sato Eriko, Eita, Takeru and Kuroshio Jiro. The movie features Sato as Enoshima Kanako who is living with her boyfriend of 10 years Murakami Hideo (Eita), a struggling actor. When she gets fired from the bento factory she works at, she becomes a staff member in the professional wrestling group WRESTLE-1 and becomes deeply drawn to the sport. On the other hand, Hideo who is literally sponging off Kanako, misunderstands that she is seeing someone else when Kanako gets too engrossed in her new job and he causes a very serious incident as a result of his jealousy.

Yui said to have divorced her husband in late August this year

Yui was said to have divorced her husband earlier this year according to media reports on 25 October. The couple got married in late March 2015 and their twin sons were born in August the same year. According to insiders from her record company, the divorce was finalised in late August and yui has the custody rights of her sons. The couple had separated for a while and reached the conclusion of going ahead with the divorce after repeated discussions. Although there were no details on what led to the divorce, insiders said that there were irreconcilable differences between the two of them.

The completion press conference of new movie "Hagane no Renkin Jutsushi" was held at Tsunamachi Mitsui Club on 3 October which was attended by the director Sori Fumihiko and cast members Yamada Ryosuke, Honda Tsubasa, Dean Fujioka and Matsuyuki Yasuko. The movie will be released in cinemas from 1 December after it is shown as the opening film of the 30th Tokyo International Film Festival on 25 October. The date of the press conference was specially chosen as such to coincide with the date when Edward and Alphonse left for their trip to find Kenja no Ishi in the original manga.

Hamada Tatsuomi will be starring in the new TV Tokyo Winter 2018 drama "Mobusaiko 100" (Mob Psycho 100) which will begin its run from January 2018 in the Thursdays 1am timeslot and also be shown via Netflix.

Inagaki Goro, Kusanagi Tsuyoshi & Katori Shingo to produce new movie "Kusoyaro to utsukushiki sekai"

Inagaki Goro, Kusanagi Tsuyoshi and Katori Shingo will be producing a new movie titled "Kusoyaro to utsukushiki sekai" (The bastard and the beautiful world) which is scheduled to be shown in cinemas during spring 2018. According to the announcement released at 3am on 16 October via their official website "Atarashii Chizu", the trio commented that the purpose of making this movie is to make their fans nicknamed NAKAMA happy. When asked by the media, the trio's representative law firm said that part of their fanclub membership fee income will be channeled to the production budget of this movie. Details of the cast and director have yet to be confirmed.

Nakamura Aoi announces the birth of his first child

Nakamura Aoi announced the birth of his first child through his blog on 23 October. In the statement, Nakamura apologised for the sudden announcement as he had not disclosed the fact that his wife was pregnant due to safety concerns for both mother and child. As such, he asked for everyone's kind understanding and revealed that both his wife and child are in good condition.

Author of "Hana Yori Dango" denies rumours of a new real-life adaptation drama for the manga

Kamio Yoko, the author of popular manga "Hana Yori Dango", commented on her Twitter account that the rumours of a new real-life adaptation drama are totally untrue. Kamio said that she usually does not address such fake rumours but having been flooded with requests by fans who are asking her to stop such a new adaptation, she finally decided that she had to make this clear and expressed her bewilderment as to where the rumours came from.

Yamada Yuki & Nogizaka46's Saito Asuka to star in Japanese remake of Taiwanese hit movie "You are the apple of my eye"

Yamada Yuki and Nogizaka46's Saito Asuka will be starring in the Japanese remake of the 2011 Taiwanese hit movie "You are the apple of my eye" (original title in Chinese: 那些年,我們一起追的女孩) which was based on the semi-autobiographical novel of popular writer Giddens Ko. The original movie achieved 2 million box office visits in Taiwan which amounted to about 10 percent of its population and was the highest-grossing Chinese movie in Hong Kong after breaking the record held by Stephen Chow's "Kung Fu Hustle". The Japanese version titled "Ano koro, kimi wo oikaketa" (I used to chase after you during that time) will be directed by Hasegawa Yasuo and is expected to be screened in cinemas in the autumn of 2018.

Minamino Yoko to take over Saito Yuki's role in NHK Taiga drama "Segodon"

Minamino Yoko will be taking over Saito Yuki's role in the 2018 NHK Taiga drama "Segodon" starring Suzuki Ryohei which will begin its run from 7 January in the Sundays 8pm timeslot. This will be Minamino's 2nd appearance in a Taiga since 1988's "Takeda Shingen" and she will be playing the role of Ikushima who was ordered by Shimazu Nariakira (Watanabe Ken) to teach Atsuhime (Kitagawa Keiko) as she was going to marry the shogun.

Supporting cast line-up of new movie "Revenge Girl" announced

The supporting cast line-up of new movie "Revenge Girl" starring Kiritani Mirei had been announced. The movie is based on the novel written by Kiyo Tomohide and Yoshida Erika which will be published this autumn. Kiritani plays the lead character Takaraishi Miki who is a 24-year-old OL. She graduated as the top student from University of Tokyo and had also won the Miss Campus title thus making her appear as the "perfect" girl with brains and looks. However, her biggest flaw is her ugly personality which she doesn't realise. One day, her boyfriend who aspires to become a politician dumps her thus leading to Miki resolve to become a politician and the Prime Minister one day so as to get back at him.

Shinohara Ryoko to star in Japanese remake of Korean hit movie "Sunny Tsuyoi kimochi tsuyoi ai"

Shinohara Ryoko will be starring in the Japanese remake of 2011 Korean hit movie "Sunny" which will be directed by Ohne Hitoshi. The Japanese version titled "Sunny Tsuyoi kimochi tsuyoi ai" (Sunny Strong feelings strong love) will be shuttling between the present era and the 90s thus it will feature the signature elements of the 90s including J-pop and fashion trends then. Co-stars in this movie include Hirose Suzu, Maki Youko, Koike Eiko, Tomosaka Rie and Watanabe Naomi.

Imai Tsubasa to make his big screen debut in new movie "Owatta Hito"

Imai Tsubasa will be making his big screen debut in the new movie "Owatta Hito" starring Tachi Hiroshi and Kuroki Hitomi which will be shown in cinemas from 9 June next year. The comedic movie features Tachi as the lead character Tashiro Sousuke who worked in a major bank and looked like he was on the path to success when he got transferred to a subsidiary and is about to retire without any achievement to his name. However, having been so focused on work over the past few decades, Sousuke desires to continue working or else he won't be able to continue living with a purpose. Without any special skills, he can't find anything in particular to do. Upon seeing this, his wife Chigusa (Kuroki) who works as a hairdresser and his daughter jokingly suggest that Sousuke should find someone to date. Coincidentally, Sousuke indeed finds someone who he is interested but things do not turn out the way he wants and his life starts to take on an uncontrollable twist.

The drama SP will be shown at 10pm on 26 December.

The movie which is based on the true story of Kumashino who suffers from cerebral palsy and is an activist on the understanding of sexual issues involving the handicapped.

KinKi Kids to make their return together at "TV Asahi Dream Festival 2017" in October 2017

KinKi Kids will be performing together again at the upcoming "TV Asahi Dream Festival 2017" taking place at Saitama Super Arena on 29 October. This will be the duo's first performance together ever since Domoto Tsuyoshi suspended his music activities from June onwards due to sudden hearing loss.

Hayashi Kento, Yanagi Shuntaro & Maeno Tomoya to star in new real-life adaptation movie "Cherry Boys"

Hayashi Kento will be starring in the new movie "Cherry Boys" based on the same-titled manga by Koizumi Tomohiro which was published in 2000. The story features him as the lead character Kunimori Shinichi, a 25-year-old virgin and a self-centred and pretentious man. Along with two other virgins of the same age i.e. Yoshimura Tatsuya (Yanagi Shuntaro) and Takasugi Makoto (Maeno Tomoya) who also live in the same suburban city, the three of them who can't stop thinking about women and age despite their lack of progress in their work and love lives, hatch an outrageous plan to change their destinies.

Kimura Takuya & Nagasawa Masami to star in new real-life adaptation movie of "Masquerade Hotel"

Kimura Takuya and Nagasawa Masami will be starring in the new real-life adaptation movie of "Masquerade Hotel", the first novel of a 3-part series by Higashino Keigo which has sold 2.75 million copies to date. Although talks to make the adaptation started soon after the release of the novel, it took 6 years before the plans were confirmed and the movie version will be directed by Suzuki Masayuki who has works such as "HERO" under his belt and the script will be written by Okada Michitaka who was responsible for the "Liar Game" series.

Mineta Kazunobu, Matsushige Yutaka & Murakami Jun to appear in new movie "Suteki na Dynamite Scandal"

Mineta Kazunobu, Matsushige Yutaka and Murakami Jun will be appearing in the new movie "Suteki na Dynamite Scandal" starring Emoto Tasuku which will be shown in cinemas from March 2018. The movie is directed by Tominaga Masanori and based on the same-titled essay compilation by Suei Akira, who is a writer and had been the chief editor of publishing house Byakuya Shobou. It will describe the turbulent and eventful life of Suei to date such as how his birth mother (Ono Machiko) committed suicide when he was a child after an extramarital affair with the son from their neighbours' family, his resignation from the factory he worked at after senior high school and moving to Tokyo as well as how he set up the legendary erotic magazines "Weekend Super" and "Shashin Jidai" with photographer Araki Nobuyoshi in the 1980s.

The production press conference and fan meeting of FujiTV Autumn 2017 drama "Minshuu no Teki ~ Yo no naka, okashikunai desuka!?" was held on 13 October which was attended by cast members Shinohara Ryoko, Takahashi Issei, Ishida Yuriko, Maeda Atsuko and Saito Tsukasa. The drama will begin its run from 23 October in the Mondays 9pm timeslot after its start date was postponed from 16 October due to the upcoming general elections on 22 October.

Tohoshinki to sing the theme song for FujiTV Autumn 2017 drama "Ashita no Yakusoku"

Tohoshinki will be singing the theme song for FujiTV Autumn 2017 drama "Ashita no Yakusoku" starring Inoue Mao which will begin its run from 17 October in the Tuesdays 9pm timeslot. The song titled "Reboot" will be the duo's first single in two-and-a-half years since they entered military service and were discharged in April (Yunho) and August (Changmin) this year. The dance number is also meant to be a sign of Tohoshinki's return. The release date of the song is yet to be decided.

Supporting cast line-up of new movie "River's Edge" announced

The supporting cast line-up of new movie "River's Edge" starring Nikaidou Fumi and Yoshizawa Ryo had been announced. The movie is based on the same-titled manga by Okazaki Kyoko and directed by Yukisada Isao. Nikaidou plays the lead character Wakagusa Haruna, a senior high school student while Yoshizawa plays Yamada Ichiro who attends the same school as Haruna and is bullied by her ex-boyfriend Kannonzaki for being a gay. After saving Ichiro from the bullying, he reveals to Haruna that he and Yoshikawa Kozue, Haruna's junior, a student model suffering from eating disorders, had discovered a dead body on the river bed. At the same time, Haruna's friend Rumi is pregnant but doesn't know who the father is while Yamada's friend Tajima Kanna is in love with him even though he doesn't feel the same way. Just then, another dead body appears.

The supporting cast line-up of new movie "Konya Romance Gekijou de" starring Ayase Haruka and Sakaguchi Kentaro had been announced. The fantasy love story features Sakaguchi as a young man named Kenji who dreams of becoming a movie director and Ayase as Miyuki, a "princess" who appears in monochrome movies and is the woman of Kenji's dreams. Although the two has no likelihood of meeting, Miyuki suddenly comes out from her monochrome world into the colourful current era i.e. the 1960s and appears in front of Kenji which leads to them falling in love with each other.

Suda Masaki & Kiritani Kenta to sing the theme song of new movie "Hibana"

Suda Masaki and Kiritani Kenta will be singing the theme song for their movie "Hibana" which will be shown in cinemas from 23 November. The song "Asakusa Kid" was originally written and sung by Beat Takeshi in 1986 so the duo will be doing a cover version which will be featured at the end of the movie.

Toda Erika & Narita Ryo reportedly dating after collaboration in FujiTV Summer 2017 drama "Code Blue THE THIRD SEASON"

Toda Erika and Narita Ryo are said to be dating as reported on 11 October. According to media reports, the couple got to know each other while working on the FujiTV Summer 2017 drama "Code Blue THE THIRD SEASON" and started dating soon after the filming began in June. Toda was also said to have been in Narita's car when he got into an accident on 8 October thus leading to the revelation of their relationship.

Ogata Naoto's son Ogata Atsushi to make his debut in TBS Autumn 2017 drama "Rikuou"

Ogata Atsushi who is the grandson of the late Ogata Ken and son of Ogata Naoto and Sendo Nobuko, will be making his debut in the TBS Autumn 2017 drama "Rikuou" starring Yakusho Koji. He will be playing the role of Hiroki who is the classmate of Daichi (Yamazaki Kento) and understands the latter's struggles with finding a job and resisting his destiny as the heir of a longtime socks manufacturer. Despite having difficulties with his job search as well, Hiroki lends a listening ear to Daichi.

The production press conference of TV Asahi Autumn 2017 drama "Juuyou Sankounin Tantei" was held at the TV station's HQ in Tokyo on 15 October which was attended by cast members Tamamori Yuta, Koyama Keiichiro, Furukawa Yuuki, Takito Kenichi, Toyohara Kosuke, Araki Yuuko and Nishioka Tokuma. The drama begins its run from 20 October in the Fridays 11.15pm timeslot.

Completion screening event of new movie "Sensei!"


The completion screening event of new movie "Sensei!" was held at Tokyo International Forum on 26 September which was attended by the director Miki Takahiro and cast members Ikuta Toma, Hirose Suzu, Ryuusei Ryo, Morikawa Aoi, Kentaro, Nakamura Tomoya and Higa Manami. The movie will be shown in cinemas from 28 October.

Maeda Atsuko to star in spin-off drama from FujiTV Autumn 2017 drama "Minshuu no Teki ~ Yo no naka okashikunai desuka!? ~"

Maeda Atsuko will be starring in the spin-off drama from FujiTV Autumn 2017 drama "Minshuu no Teki ~ Yo no naka okashikunai desuka!? ~" which will begin its run from 23 October in the Mondays 9pm timeslot. The spin-off drama "Kataomoi no Teki" (The enemy of one-sided love) consists of 5 episodes and will be shown according to the following schedule and be made available for streaming via FOD after all episodes have been shown on TV:
