Kanjani 8's Maruyama Ryuhei to star in new movie "Dorobo Yakusha"

Kanjani 8's Maruyama Ryuhei will be taking on his first leading role in a movie when he appears in the new film "Dorobo Yakusha" (Thief Actor) directed by Nishida Masafumi who wrote the script for NHK morning drama "Toto Nee-chan". The movie is due to be shown in November this year.

Maruyama plays the role of Onuki Hajime, a welder who used to be a thief and is living a happy life with his girlfriend now. One day, he happens to meet his former partner in crime Norio and is forced to break into the residence of a picture book author to steal. Although he makes it successfully into the house, he gets discovered by various people and has to assume different identities such as the houseowner, picture book author and editor in order to prevent being exposed and arrested by the police.

Nishida and Maruyama met while working on the 2012 stage play "BOB" where Nishida felt that the latter has a charming side which is relatively unknown to others due to his image on variety shows so he decided to offer him the role in this movie. Maruyama commented that Nishida is good at hiding magical surprises in his script and has the power to make ordinary people exude their own charm. With regard to acting in this comedy of "cheating people", he hopes to put in his all to show how his character tries to deceive and be led around by others at the same time.
