First-day-screening event of new movie "Boku no tsuma to kekkon shite kudasai"

The first-day-screening event of new movie "Boku no tsuma to kekkon shite kudasai" was held at TOHO Cinemas Nichigeki on 5 November which was attended by the director Miyake Yoshishige and cast members Oda Yuji, Yoshida Yo, Harada Taizo and Komie Kaito. The movie which is based on the same-titled novel by Higuchi Takuji and was made into a stage play and drama in 2014, features Oda as a broadcast writer Mimura Shuji who is diagnosed with a terminal illness and only has 6 months to live. In order to make arrangements for his wife Ayako (Yoshida) and Yoichiro (Komie) after his demise, he tries to find a new remarriage partner for Ayako.

As it had been 4 years since his last movie "Odoru Daisousasen THE FINAL Aratanaru Kibou", Oda commented that he was feeling emotional that the movie which he hopes that everyone can see was finally released. Especially since he has a soft spot for this film, he felt that this movie allowed him to return to his roots as an actor at a time. With regard to his character, he said that although there were sad scenes which he had to do, he thought that the last scenes before his death turned out to be brighter than expected and praised his co-stars who played his family members.

Yoshida described her experience of working with Oda and said that the latter may have a tough guy image but is actually good at playing with children and taking care of them. As such, she thought that it was lucky that she managed to see this side of him. Komie also commented that Oda looks like someone who is very serious but is actually cheerful and easy to work with which led the latter to thank him for the praise.

Director Miyake recounted that during the filming, Oda had given him a fountain pen as a birthday present which was the same type featured in the movie. Oda revealed that as the fountain pen was a very old type, the shop which provided the pen for the filming said that it was the only one left in Japan. Undeterred, Oda went to search for the same type of pen and managed to find another one in the end. Although Oda would have wanted to keep the pen for himself, he still decided to give it to the diector in the end.
